Becoming qualified to take classes at FOCUS is a demanding,
challenging, exciting and rewarding 4 -week proposition for all trainees selected on the basis of a
group task, mock class, EQ test and personal interview.
FOCUS uses a communicative approach to train new teachers ensuring
their ability to propagate a high interaction level in the class. This Training Program guarantees that
the trainees acquire sufficient knowledge in the theory and methods pertinent to understanding Communicative
English development and how a language should be taught. Completing the program gives the trainees the skills
along with the confidence to be a success in the classroom.
The Training Program follows an immersion method where trainees develop their
teaching skills and knowledge of vocabulary, grammar, team assignments and conversational modules through a
combination of input sessions and practical teaching.
During input sessions trainees are engaged in the class by frequently breaking
into small groups to create teaching materials and practice teaching techniques.
During teaching practice, trainee teachers put into practice the skills and
methodology learned during the input sessions.
All teaching practices are fully observed by our trainers. Feedback is given
and suggestions are made regarding the areas of teaching that could be improved.
